Veterans Welcome Card

I have a super group of ladies who stamp with me.  They are all caring and supportive, and willing to help with almost any crazy project I come up with!  We regularly support our local VA Retirement Center in Radcliff, KY.

We take handmade cards to the center and help the veterans write messages to send to their friends and families.  We also volunteer to help with some of their activities, like Casino Day, which is happening today.  I’ll post more on that later.

The center is still not at full capacity, but new residents are coming in. To welcome them, we make Welcome to the Neighborhood cards.

Several months ago, I stamped the birdhouses and the ladies took them home, colored them, and returned them.  Now, we’re making those into cards like these.  We make different colored frames, based on the colors used on the birdhouses.  Inside it says “Welcome to the Neighborhood”.

Today, we made 24 of these.

This is also a good time for me to use up some retired products, so I used the following:

Home Tweet Home stamp, Tangerine Tango cardstock, and Tangerine Tango Bakers Twine.  I can’t tell you what was used to color, as each of my ladies used their favorite supplies to color as they desired.

Thanks for stopping by!

Welcome Veterans!

Happy Fourth of July!!

I hope you are having a great day celebrating the birthday of our country.  When I think about Independence Day, I’m reminded of all the veterans who have sacrificed for our freedom.

I recently gave stamped birdhouses to all my stamping friends, and they colored them and returned them to me.  We are now making them into Welcome cards for the veterans who are moving into the new Veterans Center near Fort Knox.  It’s a brand new nursing home, and they currently have 8 residents, but will have 120 once they’ve passed all the inspections.

This is the second group of cards we’ve made.  You can see the first group here.

A few people and businesses were kind enough to donate money to purchase slipper socks (you know, the ones with the rubber grips on the bottom) to be given to the new residents.  Another friend, Nancy, donated white boxes leftover from a project at her church, and we packaged the socks and decorated the boxes.  Didn’t they turn out nice?

And, here’s a picture of Janet, who helped me package and decorate this group of socks!!  We delivered them to the VA Center Wednesday.

Thanks for stopping by and enjoy your holiday!  And, if you see a Veteran, thank them for their service.  It means so much to them.

Welcome Home Veterans

My stamping friends and I have adopted a Veterans Nursing Home that’s being built near Fort Knox, Kentucky.  I stamped over 120 of these birdhouses and gave them out to stampers to be colored and returned to me.  We will then make them into cards welcoming the new residents.  This is one of the first group of cards.  The inside of the card says Welcome Home.

Stamps:  Home Tweet Home (vintage)

Cardstock:  Whisper White, Pumpkin Pie

Ink:  Basic Black

Dies:  Lots of Labels Framelits

Other:  Colored using various supplies (choice left up to participants), black ribbon (non-SU), embossing folder (unknown)

If you see a veteran, I hope you’ll thank them for their service. And, thank you for stopping by today.
