In today’s blog hop, we’re focusing on some of our favorite Christmas carols. I love Christmas carols and would listen to them all year round if my husband would let me. My favorites are Sleigh Ride, with the horses clip clopping and the whip snapping, and Mary, Did You Know by Mark Lowry. Unfortunately, I couldn’t find the right stamp set for either of those. So, I chose the Great Tidings Bundle to represent my mother’s favorite Christmas carol, Beautiful Star of Bethlehem.
Beautiful Star of Bethlehem
I used the Great Tidings bundle to create my card/luminary. I actually only used the dies for this project. It folds flat and fits into a regular sized envelope for mailing. The finished size is 4 1/4″ x 4 1/4″.
Great Tidings Luminary
To make this card/luminary, I cut out the village from black cardstock using the Wise Men Tidings Dies. I freehand cut a hillside from black. Then, I glued the village along the top edge.
I glued the hillside onto a piece of vellum. Then, I used the blending brushes to add Balmy Blue, Misty Moonlight, and Night of Navy inks directly to the vellum. I applied the lightest blue closest to the village and worked up to the top with the darker colors.
The card base is a 4 1/4″ x 11″ piece of Night of Navy, scored at 4 1/4′ and 7 3/4′. I cut a large square in the front panel, adhered the vellum over that and framed it with the window die from the Wise Men Tidings Dies, cut from a piece from the Silver Foil Specialty pack.
Details
I used the star die to cut the Star of Bethlehem from the scrap silver foil and adhered it with a black mini Dimensional. The sprinkling of white stars is made with the White Chalk Marker.
I added three of the Silver Epoxy Essentials as my “stop” to keep the card front in place.
Luminary
I placed a battery powered tealight inside the card to create a luminary.

My mother loved Christmas, and I really miss her at this time of year. If you aren’t familiar with my mother’s favorite carol, you can hear a version by the Oak Ridge Boys by clicking on the button below.
