Inspired Thoughts Winter Sunset

Today’s Freshly Brewed Projects Blog Hop explores using dies as silhouettes. I’m using the Inspired Thoughts Bundle for my Inspired Thoughts Winter Sunset.

Inspired Thoughts Bundle

As a demonstrator, we are allowed to purchase select products early, so we can begin preparing for classes. The Inspired Thoughts Bundle was on our Annual Catalog pre-order list. It was at the very top of my list, and I’m excited that today I get a chance to use it. It comes with the stamp set seen below and this beautiful trees die, in addition to other dies.

Inspiration

The idea for this card has actually been rolling around in my head for a few years. Every winter, I occasionally see a beautiful sunset through bare trees, and I’ve always wanted to capture that look on a card.

When I saw this bundle and those beautiful bare trees, I knew I needed to finally recreate one of those beautiful sunsets.

How To Make A Sunset

First, I cut the trees from a piece of black cardstock. I cut a Very Vanilla panel to 3 3/4″ x 5″ and positioned the trees across it. Once I decided where I wanted my sun to be, I removed the trees and applied Mango Melody ink to that spot with the Blending Brushes. I wasn’t careful about the size, just covering a larger area than my sun would be.

Then, I used a circle die in the size I wanted for my sun, and cut a piece of scrap paper (not cardstock). Using removable adhesive, I attached this circle over the area I had just colored. This is called a Mask and will protect the color of my sun.

Using the blending brushes, I started at the bottom of the panel and applied the following colors, working my way up to the top of the panel – Flirty Flamingo, Polished Pink, Fresh Freesia, and Gorgeous Grape. I did overlap the colors a little so it would blend together and not look like stripes. Remove the Mask to reveal the sun.

Once I had the sunset like I wanted, I simply adhered the trees to the front of the panel and adhered that to a black panel cut to 4″ x 5 1/4″. This was adhered to a Flirty Flamingo card base of 5 1/2″ x 8 1/2″ folded in half.

The Details

I stamped the Sentiment on a scrap of Very Vanilla and cut it out using the smallest of the square cut Tailor Made Tags Dies. Using a small piece of the Black Glittered Organdy Ribbon, I tied it into the hole of the tag.

That’s it! A beautiful sunset sympathy card!

  1. Stunning card Jeanne. The silhouette against the colourful background is gorgeous. I thought about using this die too, I love it so much.
