Great Tidings Luminary

Great Tidings Luminary Lit

In today’s blog hop, we’re focusing on some of our favorite Christmas carols. I love Christmas carols and would listen to them all year round if my husband would let me. My favorites are Sleigh Ride, with the horses clip clopping and the whip snapping, and Mary, Did You Know by Mark Lowry. Unfortunately, I couldn’t find the right stamp set for either of those. So, I chose the Great Tidings Bundle to represent my mother’s favorite Christmas carol, Beautiful Star of Bethlehem.

Beautiful Star of Bethlehem

I used the Great Tidings bundle to create my card/luminary. I actually only used the dies for this project. It folds flat and fits into a regular sized envelope for mailing. The finished size is 4 1/4″ x 4 1/4″.

To make this card/luminary, I cut out the village from black cardstock using the Wise Men Tidings Dies. I freehand cut a hillside from black. Then, I glued the village along the top edge.

I glued the hillside onto a piece of vellum. Then, I used the blending brushes to add Balmy Blue, Misty Moonlight, and Night of Navy inks directly to the vellum. I applied the lightest blue closest to the village and worked up to the top with the darker colors.

The card base is a 4 1/4″ x 11″ piece of Night of Navy, scored at 4 1/4′ and 7 3/4′. I cut a large square in the front panel, adhered the vellum over that and framed it with the window die from the Wise Men Tidings Dies, cut from a piece from the Silver Foil Specialty pack.

I used the star die to cut the Star of Bethlehem from the scrap silver foil and adhered it with a black mini Dimensional. The sprinkling of white stars is made with the White Chalk Marker.

I added three of the Silver Epoxy Essentials as my “stop” to keep the card front in place.

I placed a battery powered tealight inside the card to create a luminary.

Frosted Gingerbread Mini Slimline Card

Frosted Gingerbread Lead

It’s my turn to create a project for the FAB Stampers (Friends Across Borders) weekly post. I’m using the Frosted Gingerbread Bundle.

Frosted Gingerbread Mini Slimline Card

For today’s FAB Stampers post, I’m creating a mini slimline card using the Frosted Gingerbread Bundle, the Gingerbread and Peppermint 6 x 6 DSP, and the 6 x 6 Kraft paper.

Frosted Gingerbread Lead

Gingerbread & Peppermint Suite

For this project, I chose to use products from the Gingerbread & Peppermint Suite. Almost all these products are found on page 9 of the 2021 Jul-Dec Mini Catalog.

I used the 6 x 6 kraft paper for this card. It makes the perfect mini slimline card when folded in half. I made the subtle background using a mask from the Adorning Designs Decorative Masks, Cinnamon Cider ink pad and a dauber.

I cut a strip of the Gingerbread & Peppermint 6 x 6 DSP and adhered it across the middle of the card. The gingerbread cookies are cut using the coordinating Gingerbread Dies and scraps of Cinnamon Cider cardstock. The icing is cut from Basic White. I adhered a piece of Adhesive Sheet to my white cardstock before cutting, which made the icing into stickers, so no glue was required. Adhesive sheets are great to use with detailed dies!

I stamped the greeting and the peppermint candies in Real Red ink on Basic White. The greeting is cut using a die from the Tasteful Labels Die set. The peppermint candies are cut using the die from the Gingerbread Dies set.

I used Dimensionals to adhere all of these images to the card.

Quilted Christmas

Quilted Christmas Lead Photo

Today’s Freshly Brewed Blog Hop is focused on Traditional Christmas projects, and what could be more traditional here in the USA than a red and green Quilted Christmas? Although, my friends in Australia are probably not in need of quilts at this time of year!

Traditional Quilted Christmas

I’ve been seeing these quilt cards for a while, and really wanted to try one, but I didn’t get inspired to make one until my sister-in-law, Patty, took my dad’s shirts and jeans and made me a quilt. My dad passed a couple of years ago, so it was such a special gift. I asked her to make it as a tablecloth, and it is now on display on my dining room table.

After making her card (more on that later), I knew I had to make one for this hop, using traditional red and green DSP.

Book Fold Card

This card uses the Gingerbread and Peppermint 6×6 DSP, and a Book Fold. To get the book fold, cut your 8 1/2″ x 11″ cardstock in half vertically, so you’ll have a piece 4 1/4″ x 11″. Score on the long side at 5 1/2″ (halfway), and again at 6 3/4″. Fold the card in half, with the additional score line on the front of the card, then fold the other score line back in the opposite direction. On the inside, place adhesive on the card BETWEEN the two score lines and close the card to seal.

Once I had my quilt pattern arranged (I’ll show you that in a bit), I embossed it with the Star Crossed Embossing Folder to give it a quilted look. Next, I adhered it to panels of Real Red and Old Olive, and placed it on the card front.

I used a hole punch to just nip the center edges of the book fold portion. This keeps my gold cord from slipping off the card.

I stamped the long greeting from the Classic Cloche stamp set in Old Olive, cut it into three pieces and added it with Dimensionals over the gold cord. I embellished with gold metallic pearls.

The Inspiration

This is the card I made for my sister-in-law to thank her for the beautiful gift of my quilt. I used vintage DSP, cardstock and twine on this card, so I won’t post the ingredients, but the Blackberry Bliss, Sahara Sand, greeting from Dragonfly Garden and Ornate Frames Dies are still available.

How to Make the Quilt

I used 1″ squares of coordinating DSP. You’ll need nine squares. Arrange them to your taste and adhere to a 3×3 piece of cardstock. Once you have them all adhered, cut the cardstock into quarters (1 1/2″ both directions). You’ll now have four squares to arrange as you choose.
