Today’s Blog Hop features Embossing Folders and different ways to use them. I’m using the new Bloom Hybrid Embossing Folder to make a Sympathy Card.
A Card Everyone Can Use
As I get older, I find I need sympathy cards more frequently. Although I love making cards, I really don’t like making these because it means one of my friends or family is hurting. But, while I am making these cards, I’m thinking of, and praying for the recipient….. praying for strength and comfort, and I hope that helps in some small way.
Embossing Folders – Not Just For Backgrounds
I feel that embossing folders work quite well for sympathy cards. Instead of using them as a background, I allow them be the focal point. I also think all-white cards make pretty sympathy cards. They are classy and elegant.
All White Card
To make this card, I used the Bloom Hybrid Embossing Folder on a white panel slightly smaller than my white card and used Dimensionals under the three die cut flowers.
Bloom Hybrid Embossing Folder
The Bloom Hybrid Embossing Folder is different than our other embossing folders. It has a set of dies that fit inside the embossing folder. You can use the folder with or without the dies. Without the dies, you’ll have a solid embossed panel, but WITH the dies, it will emboss AND cut out the three flowers.
How to Partially Emboss A Layer
As you can see on my card, I left the bottom of my embossed layer plain so I could stamp a sentiment. Here’s how I made this layer. First, lay the dies inside the embossing folder. They don’t snap in, but you’ll be able to feel when they are in the right spot.
In the second photo, you can see how I aligned my layer in the embossing folder with the dies on top.
In the third photo, I placed the embossing plate ONLY on the area I wanted to emboss. You can see that the bottom of the embossing folder is not covered. When I run it through my Stampin’ Cut & Emboss, this area will NOT be embossed because it isn’t covered by the plate and there will be no pressure on that area.
In the last photo, you can see the layer, partially embossed and the three flowers that were both cut and embossed.
The Details
The flowers are layered onto the card in the same spot where they were cut using Dimensionals to add height. I used Wink Of Stella on the flowers for a little sparkle, and added Gray Granite Shimmer Ribbon to match the sentiment which is stamped in Gray Granite.
A Little Different Version
After I made the All White card, I wondered what it would look like with a small layer of Gray Granite behind the embossed layer. I think it seems to give the flowers a little more “pop” with the tiny bit of color that shows behind them.
Which Do You Like Best?
So, what do you think? Do you like the all white card or the one with the bit of Gray Granite showing? I’d love to hear what you think in the comments.

Here’s the fixin’s:
This card requires very few supplies.
While both are pretty and classy, I like the added gray card stock.
I think that’s my favorite, too. I think the flowers pop just a bit more with the grey peeking out. Thanks for taking the time to comment.
Thanks for sharing the “hop” I love your card but think I like it best all white.
Thanks for taking the time to comment, Joyce! The white is really pretty.
